Laureles / Estadio: More local vibe, cheaper, very safe, and full of parks and restaurants. Great balance.
Envigado: A bit further out but super safe, very local, and much cheaper. Perfect if you want to save money.
Manrique: Up and coming, very artistic and cultural, but less English spoken here.
5. Food & Lifestyle
Life in Medellín is slow and social.
Must try: Bandeja Paisa (massive traditional plate), Arepas, and Ajiaco soup.
Social life: People are incredibly friendly and welcoming. It’s super easy to make friends. There are always language exchange meetups, hiking groups, and networking events.
Proximity: You are close to amazing places like Guatapé (the colorful town with the big rock), Santa Fe de Antioquia, and even the airport is only about 45 mins away now with the new tunnel.
6. Safety Tips
Like any big city, you need to use common sense.
- Don’t flash expensive phones or jewelry on the street.
- Take Uber/Didi at night rather than hailing random taxis or walking alone in dark areas.
- Stick to the main tourist areas and you’ll be absolutely fine.
